The course aims to provide fundamental concepts and methodologies in vibration mechanics. Starting from an in depth discussion of the basic concepts, we develop the knowledge needed to solve technical problems due to vibrations.
Course topics: Vibrations kinematics and spectral analysis. Single degree of freedom systems: free and forced vibrations, transfer functions. Discrete systems with two and more degrees of freedom: methods for writing the equations of motion, natural frequencies and modes, response to harmonic and non harmonic excitation. Vibrations measurements. Vibration control. Continuous systems: transverse vibrations of the rope, longitudinal vibrations, torsion and bending of beams. Introduction to FEM methods.
